As part of the Massey University School of Psychology we also provide clinical practicum experience and internships to students completing postgraduate Clinical Psychology studies.
Let us know if you have a preference for a clinician of a particular gender, cultural background or expertise, and we will do our best to assist in providing an appropriate clinician to meet your needs.

Dr Nicola Gillan

Senior Clinical Psychologist and Clinic DirectorAs a clinical psychologist, Nicola has worked with adults, children and families in psychology and assessment services in both the UK and New Zealand. She has also worked as a clinician, researcher and teacher in Australia, Canada, and the USA.
She works with people who have a range of needs and has specialist experience in services for those with neurodevelopmental differences, eating disorders, traumatic stress, and relational or family distress. She has worked with neurodiverse populations for over 20 years and is also a trainer in the ADOS-2 and ADI-r.
Heinrich De Kock

Senior Clinical Psychologist, Wellington Psychology Clinic, School of Psychology – College of Humanities and Social Sciences, Wellington campusHeinrich has been a practicing clinical psychologist for 10 years. He has worked in various primary and secondary mental health services as well as the Department of Corrections. Heinrich has experience working with Trauma, Depression, Anxiety and Personality Disorders. He is ACC accredited and has experience in Cognitive and Neuropsychological testing.
Heinrich's areas of interest include CBT, mindfulness-based interventions, psychodynamic, schema and Dialectic Behavioural Therapy. His specialisations include:
- adult mental health
- trauma
- depression and anxiety
- bereavement
- anger management
- personality disorders
- clinical supervision.
Dr Louise Edwards
BSc (Hon), MSc (Hon), PGDipSci, DClinPsych, MNZCCP
Senior Clinical Psychologist, Wellington Psychology Clinic, School of Psychology – College of Humanities and Social Sciences, Wellington campusLouise is a highly qualified, fully registered Clinical Psychologist and a Full Member of the New Zealand College of Clinical Psychologists. Since becoming a Clinical Psychologist she has worked with children, adolescents and adults, both within a DHB setting and in private practice. Louise has worked in Community Mental Health settings and a within a specialist Eating Disorder service, working both with inpatient and outpatients populations and has expertise in working with individuals, families and in group settings.
Louise is passionate about helping people change, grow and heal allowing them the freedom to live the life they want to live. She believes it is a privilege to hear people’s stories and work alongside them to make sense of things during difficult times.
Louise has a special interest in working with adolescents and young adults, and is able to help with a wide range of difficulties, including depression, anxiety, eating disorders, trauma, stress, anger, sleep difficulties, obsessive compulsive disorder, panic attacks, school refusal, social anxiety, parenting, self-harm, suicidal thoughts and phobias.
Louise works using a number of different therapies including:
- Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT),
- Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing therapy (EMDR)
- Cognitive Behavioural Therapy Enhanced (specifically for Eating Disorder treatment);
- Dialectical Behavioural therapy (DBT),
- Schema Therapy
- Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT)
Dr Jessica McIvor
BA, MA (Psychology) (Hons), Doctor of Clinical Psychology (Massey University)
Jessica has a decade of post-doctoral experience with international academics and trainers mostly within the area of attachment and trauma. She has worked across hospital, university, and private settings holding both lecturing and senior clinician roles.
Therapy types: Eye Movement and Desensitisation Therapy (EMDR). Jessica is a Consultant in Training who can work across a variety of areas regardless of the problem (transdiagnostic approach). Her main interests include attachment, trauma, anxiety, mood, substance use, and structural dissociation.
Client range: Advanced EMDR training with children, teenagers, and adults.
Dr Elle Brittain
Ngāti Kahungunu ki te Wairoa, Ngāti Rakaipaaka
Elle is a Clinical Psychologist and Lecturer. Her clinical practice has primarily been with adults with harmful substance use and co-existing mental health difficulties, although she also has experience working with young people and their whānau. Elle recognises the value of Māori worldviews and concepts as they relate to experiences of psychological distress and wellbeing, which she integrates in her therapeutic work with Māori.
She has a basis in cognitive-behavioural therapy, and she draws on other approaches, such as motivational interviewing and mindfulness-based strategies.
Dr Ilana Seager van Dyk (she/her)
BA (Psychology) (Yale), MA and PhD in Clinical Psychology (Ohio State), NZ Registered Psychologist (Clinical Scope), New York State (USA), Licensed Clinical Psychologist
Senior Lecturer and Senior Clinical Psychologist, Wellington Psychology Clinic, School of Psychology – College of Humanities and Social Sciences, Wellington campusIlana (she/her) is a registered clinical psychologist who is passionate about providing effective, evidence-based psychological care to youth and their families. She has particular expertise in: working with LGBTQ+/Rainbow young people; assessing and treating anxiety, depression, OCD, and related conditions; helping parents develop effective behaviour management strategies for youth with ADHD; and conducting cognitive and learning assessments with children and adolescents.
Ilana undertook her clinical training in the USA at Ohio State University, Nationwide Children’s Hospital, UCLA, and Yale. She has worked with youth and their families across a wide range of settings, including inpatient psychiatric units, inpatient medical floors, outpatient medical clinics, partial hospitalisation and intensive outpatient programmes, and outpatient behavioural health. In her role as a Senior Lecturer, Ilana also develops and refines existing mental health treatments to be more affirming and responsive to the unique needs of LGBTQ+/Rainbow individuals.
Dr Simon Bennett
Te Arawa (Ngāti Whakaue), Ngāpuhi (Patu Harakeke) and Ngāi Tahu (Ngāti Waewae)
Simon's is a Senior Lecturer in Clinical Psychology and has previously held the roles of Coordinator of Clinical Training in Wellington (2013–2017) and Director of Clinical Psychology Training (2018–2020).
He undertook his clinical training at Massey, then worked in a Kaupapa Māori mental health service for several years. He then completed his PhD at Massey, seeking to adapt and integrate Māori concepts into cognitive behavioural therapy.
Simon is a Registered Psychologist within the Clinical Scope of Practice and has clinical work experience in adult mental health, neuropsychology and child and family. However, most of his clinical and research time has been focused on the field of Māori mental health.

Carrie Wilson
BA (Psychology)
Client Services ManagerCarrie graduated from Victoria University of Wellington in 2013 with a Bachelor of Arts majoring in Psychology. She worked for CCDHB before starting at the Massey Psychology Clinic in 2016.
Carrie is on parental leave until September 2024.
Layna Ajera
BA Mass Communication
Client Services AdministratorLayna holds a bachelor’s degree in Mass Communication from the University of the Philippines. Prior to Massey, Layna worked at Lasalle College of the Arts managing various collaborative projects with a diverse group of stakeholders. She has gained a wide range of experience in customer service, office administration and business operation management during her career in the Philippines and Singapore.
