The delegation was led by Mr Sheng Jianxue, Secretary-General of the China Scholarship Council. He met with College of Creative Arts Pro Vice-Chancellor Professor Maile Petty to sign the renewal of the Joint PhD Scholarship Agreement.
Under this agreement, Massey provides PhD tuition scholarships to CSC scholars, while CSC meets the scholar’s travel, living and accommodation costs. Since signing the agreement in 2017, Massey has been awarded 25 CSC PhD scholars. Of these scholars, 11 are currently still enrolled at Massey.
“CSC is the leading Chinese Government funder of scholarships for overseas training and Massey has worked with it for many years on the selection of scholars. Now that the world is opening up again after the pandemic, it was great to meet with the CSC Secretary-General in person and explore further possibilities for co-operation,” Professor Maile Petty says.
During the past 10 years, CSC has sponsored nearly 400 Chinese scholars to visit and study at Massey through various programmes including PhD, short course training and visiting scholars programmes.
Under the Joint PhD Scholarship Agreement, Massey staff have also been able to engage in the International Graduate Scholarship Fair (IGSF) both online and in China.
