After a procurement process in 2023 that resulted in Paladin being named the successful apparel supplier, the range underwent a lengthy design phase involving assistance and input from multiple university departments and external designers.
Sports Advancement Manager Jacob Oram says it has been a true team effort.
“The apparel range has been eagerly awaited, and we’re super proud of what’s been produced. We’d like to thank everyone involved who helped us realise our vision of creating high-quality sporting apparel that meets the diverse needs of our athletes, staff and supporters. A special thank you to Sports Advancement Coordinator Chris Sharrock and Associate Director Marketing Heather Crichton for being driving forces in this project, as well as Engagement Coordinator Janelle Deuchrass for her expertise during the procurement process and selection and Professor Robert Jahnke for his knowledge and support around the kōwhaiwhai design. We look forward to seeing Massey represented with the same passion that went into creating the range.”
The launch saw several student athletes get the opportunity to try on the new gear and be involved in the promotional shots.
Third year Bachelor of Sport and Exercise student Josh Paine says it was a great experience to get to put on the new sports uniform for the first time.
“It looked and felt fantastic. I can’t wait to get out there and pull it on when I’m representing Massey as part of the UTSNZ Tertiary Men’s Basketball Team.”
Kasey Cavell, a third year Bachelor of Arts student says it will be a proud moment when she gets to wear it for the first time as part of the UTSNZ Tertiary Women’s Futsal Team.
“Each of the different uniforms looked amazing, and it was a real privilege to be among the first group to try it on.”
