A stall at Auckland's Big Gay Out last weekend is the latest achievement for a Massey University staff group committed to promoting the wellbeing and inclusion of people of all gender and sexual identities.
The Out&About@Massey team, supported by Massey students, showcased the University’s commitment to diversity to the thousands gathered for the annual festival.
Established two years ago, the group has accomplished several other major milestones in its short history. It successfully advocated for Massey to apply for Rainbow Tick certification and was instrumental in the establishment of the student club, Massey Pride, which has a Facebook page, coffee groups and hosts social events at the Auckland campus.
To mark the start of the academic year, afternoon teas for new and returning lesbian, gay, bisexual queer, takatāpui, transsexual, intersex students and supporters will be held on all campuses for students during semester one orientation:
- Auckland campus: Monday, February 27 from 3-4pm in Massey Business School room 2.15
- Manawatu campus: Friday, February 24 starting at 3pm in the Sir Geoffrey Peren Building
- Wellington campus: Thursday, February 23 from 3.30-5pm in The Lounge.
Out&About@Massey is hoping to further grow their membership this year and welcomes staff, family and allies of the rainbow community to join. Staff can find out more by emailing Debora Lee.
Students wanting to join Massey Pride can visit the Facebook group or email pride@clubs.asa.ac.nz.
