It is the second year in a row that Te Kunenga ki Pūrehuroa Massey University has ranked in the top 250 universities worldwide, and the sixth year in a row that the university has ranked in the top 300, for both the overall and academic reputation rankings.
In the sustainability indicator that was introduced in 2023, Massey has again performed well, moving up one position from last year to now be ranked third in Aotearoa New Zealand.
This is due, in part, to the introduction of the Master of Sustainable Development Goals in 2020 and the launch of the specialisation in climate action this year. Massey also recently became an Australasian Campuses Towards Sustainability (ACTS) Green Impact member, and is working towards the outcomes identified in the Climate Action Plan, guided by the Sustainability Framework.
Other indicators that saw an increase were citations per faculty, for which Massey rose 47 positions worldwide, and faculty student ratio, in which Massey rose 40 positions worldwide.
Provost Professor Giselle Byrnes says, "This is a fantastic achievement for Massey in a highly competitive environment. Our strategic commitments to sustainability underpin our research, teaching and operations across the university and it is good to see this recognised in this year’s result."
For this ranking round, QS considered 5663 universities, which was 2700 more than last year. Indicators assessed included academic and employer reputation, citations, international faculty and students, sustainability, international research network and employment outcomes.
A total of 17.4 million publications, 175.9 million citations, 1.9 million academic nominations and 660,000 employer nominations were assessed for the rankings.
