Fellow status in the ICA is recognition of distinguished scholarly contributions in the field of communication. The primary consideration for nomination to Fellow status is a documented record of scholarly achievement.

Professor Croucher has an impressive resume, which aided him in this appointment. He has extensively researched organisational and intercultural communication and authored more than 120 peer-reviewed journal articles. He has also authored and co-edited more than 10 books and given keynote addresses in more than 25 nations.

He serves on the editorial boards of various journals and served as the editor of the Journal of Intercultural Communication Research from 2010 to 2019, Speaker & Gavel from 2010 to 2015, and the Review of Communication from 2023 to present. He has held leaderships positions in the National Communication Association, ICA and the World Communication Association. He is the editor elect of Communication Monographs.

Professor Croucher was nominated by fellow ICA members and was elected a Fellow by current Fellows and approval by the Board of Directors before achieving his Fellow status at the ICA conference in Australia. He was one of 27 Fellows to be elected this year and is one of the youngest to be elected. Professor Mohan Dutta and Professor Croucher are the only two Fellows in Aotearoa New Zealand.

Professor Croucher says he was shocked to find out he was nominated and elected.

“These are the people who have shaped the discipline, innovated and led. To be included among them is truly humbling. I’ve been fortunate in my career to have great mentors, colleagues and students who have helped me achieve this great honour, and for this I am grateful.

“It was also great to share this event with a group of CJM doctoral students and staff. We had a group of seven doctoral students and a few staff attending the conference. It was nice to have them there cheering me on at the awards ceremony.”
