School of Accountancy wins MYOB Education Partner of the Year

Tuesday 29 October 2024

Te Kunenga ki Pūrehuroa Massey University’s School of Accountancy has been named the MYOB New Zealand Education Partner of the Year for 2024.

The MYOB Partner Awards celebrate the work of MYOB's accounting, bookkeeping and education partners across Australia and New Zealand. The awards recognise partner innovation, business development strategies, continued learning and superior service.

The School of Accountancy has incorporated MYOB in their courses to assist students with their education journey. Both in-person and distance students have been offered the software.

MYOB Executive General Manager – SME, Emma Fawcett, says that Massey University’s strategic approach to providing practical student learning through the MYOB business management platform is what secured the school the New Zealand Education Partner of the Year Award for 2024.

“By deeply integrating MYOB’s cloud-based platform into course material and assessments, Massey University’s School of Accountancy has continued to deliver clear, tangible benefits to its students as they build their skills and prepare to start their accounting careers.

“It’s a pleasure to see a teaching team so focused on helping their students succeed, and their hands-on execution is a great example of how digital solutions and platforms like ours, can be embedded in tertiary course curriculums to truly assist students with their learning journey,” she adds.

Associate Professor, Radiah Othman, says Massey’s partnership with MYOB provides students with valuable, job-related skills that enhance employability and career prospects, no matter where they study from.

“With MYOB’s software, students gain hands-on experience and collaborate on assignments, involving generating financial statements and applying the software to practical scenarios. This practical experience links with the concepts they learn from classes such as business processes, computer control, transaction processing, and security and computer risks and threats.”

Dr Othman says over the years, Massey students have benefited tremendously from the university’s partnership with MYOB.

“Our MYOB partnership helps us to integrate computer software into our learning experiences, equipping students with practical skills that ultimately enhance their readiness for the workplace. After finishing an assignment in some accounting courses, students receive a Certificate of Completion from MYOB which shows prospective employers that they have experience with the software, giving them a competitive edge in the job market.”

Acting Head of School of Accountancy Associate Professor, Claire Matthews, says this award highlights Massey’s ongoing dedication to delivering top-tier accounting education. She acknowledges the success of this partnership and says the award would not have been possible without the team effort from the School of Accountancy and their collective dedication to student success and innovative education.

“This award shows that we are committed to fostering meaningful collaborations with industry innovators like MYOB. We’re proud to continue empowering the next generation of accounting professionals with the tools and knowledge they need to succeed.”
