Film production facilities

Sleep/Wake Research Centre
The centre advances and applies scientific knowledge about sleep, waking and how these are regulated by the circadian body clock. As well as academic research and teaching, we offer consultancy services and expert advice to government, industries and unions.

Fab Lab
Fab Lab Wellington is Australasia’s first digital fabrication laboratory affiliated to the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). Fab Lab's capabilities include:
- A computer-controlled laser cutter
- numerically-controlled milling machine
- a sign cutter
- a precision milling machine to make 3-dimensional moulds
- surface-mount circuit boards
- and small 3D printers.
Lighting studio
Massey University's Wellington campus lighting studio provides students with access to an industry equivalent photographic/film studio consisting of built-in coved backdrop, a lighting grid, small camera dolly/crane, lights and accessories required to shoot anything from a small product shot to a short film.

Nursing simulation suites
Suites include:
- mock hospital settings
- 2-way observation spaces
- standard nursing equipment for hospital and community work.
Students learn and practice nursing skills through case studies and simulations using actors, interactive manikins and real-time body camera recordings.

Recording studios
Designed by Munro Acoustics and Athfield Architects, our world-class studios include:
- live-rooms controlled by two sought-after desks — 72ch Neve and 48ch SSL Duality analogue console
- control rooms with monitoring by Dynaudio Acoustics soffit mounted speakers in 5.1.

Analytics lab
Massey University has a dedicated Analytics Lab in Wellington, the first and only Integrated Data Infrastructure (IDI) teaching lab in New Zealand. The lab gives students and staff access to the IDI database that contains over 166 billion factors of data from a broad range of government agencies for research and teaching purposes.
Motion capture stage
Used as a key workflow for VFX and games, the Motion Capture stage utilises a 20-camera Vicon system with Vicon’s propriety Shogun software.
3D Workshop
Students can access a number of workshops on campus, alongside technical staff who will introduce them to the equipment and assist them if required. The 3D Workshop has specialty spaces to explore materials, prototyping and manufacturing processes. This includes wood, plastics, engineering, resins/ casting, welding, sanding and spray booths, CNC (water jet cutter, laser cutters, mill, routers) through to wood and metal working machinery and hand tools.
Communication lab
Mid-size tutorial classroom with 3 breakout rooms for video recording or live streaming for presentations and seminars. Each breakout room has a iMac video editing workstation that is linked into a media server for project work.
