Te Rau Angitū , Māori postgraduate awards programme

A Māori postgraduate award can help with your study fees and/or research costs.

On this page

The purpose of Te Rau Angitū, a Māori postgraduate awards programme, is to contribute to the completion of a postgraduate qualification from master's level and below (including honours, postgraduate diplomas and certificates). The award will assist with your study fees and/or research or course related costs. In addition, an academic and learning programme will be provided to support the successful completion of your qualification.

Please note, if you are a Māori Doctoral student seeking support through your studies, you can access support through Te Wheke a Toi.

Eligibility

These awards are open to Māori postgraduate students (part-time and full-time) who are:

  • Currently enrolled at Massey University in a Postgraduate Certificate or Diploma, Honours, or Masters and will be enrolled in a postgraduate programme in 2024.
  • committed to performing to a high academic standard.
  • Have a desire to engage with the programme and explore mātauranga Māori, Māori approaches to research, and Māori spaces and perspectives in postgraduate study. NB: This doesn’t suggest that your postgraduate study has to include these topics/perspectives, but that you are open to learning about them as the speakers/guests we have often provide this knowledge, expertise and experience.

Please ensure you complete your application form on time, as incomplete or late applications will not be accepted.

Note: you are not eligible to apply for this award if you are:

  • a full-time staff of Massey University
  • a recipient of any scholarship/s over $15,000 per annum, including recipients who have been awarded scholarships to cover full study fees and/or research costs
  • Have received a Te Rau Angitū award consecutively over two years (e.g. 2022 and 2023, or 2023 and 2024).
