Philosophy
At Te Uru Karaka we use te reo Māori as a living language. To flourish to our full potential as kaitiaki of te reo we need a strong whānau commitment at home. Tamariki are viewed as naturally spiritual and emotional beings with inherited traits of tapu, mana, mauri and wairua. Kaiako and whānau work in partnership to ensure the best outcome for tamariki.
The environment of the Kōhanga Reo is viewed as an important part of our educational experience. We work in unison to develop an environment that is sustainable and meaningful for learning and engagement. Areas and spaces are thoughtfully planned out and considered.
Te Whāriki a te Kōhanga Reo provides the framework for everything that we do. Our curriculum is designed to enable tamariki to:
- communicate in many ways
- confidently research
- take risks
- explore their own ideas and interests within localised learning contexts.
Kaiako are valued as educators that use intentional teaching strategies and current research to guide their work. Please contact us for more details.
